Some photos, as I did here such an autumn nuno felted scarf. It does not have much wool, but a lot of silk fabric and different fibers.Scarf thin, fit well around the neck, comfortable to wear.
The first layer is merino wool
Next I put a lot of diffecent kind of fibers - silk , viscose, silk hanks . It will be one side of the scarf .
The second side of the felted scarf will be - margelan silk
In order to make such a jacket I use good quality alpaca fibers .I used the carded alpaca fibers that I bought on the Eco-Alpaca farm, and the fleece alpaca from the Beacon Alpacas farm. In the beginning, I strip the carded fibers into very thin layers and spread the entire surface of the vest with these layers.
This layer is very thin transparent.
From above I lay out a very thin layer of merino and a fairly dense layer of viscose fibers on both sides of the waistcoat.Viscose gives a sliding surface and shine. At the edges of the waistcoat I spread the fleece of alpaca into 2 or 3 layers.I choose alpaca fiber 10 cm long.
5-8 August I had dyeing and felting course on theGriezītes Alpakas farm in Latvia Friday was dyeing day so the morning was spent walking around the land
collecting the leaves and flowers to use. In the afternoon the leaves
and flowers were laid out onto the silk to be used for scarves and for
the jackets to be felted the following
day, then the dyeing process was started. We ended up setting up in the
barn where it was much much cooler than the greenhouse. It was amazed at
the fine detail and colours which could be achieved from the dyeing
process Saturday was felting day. The dyed silk panels were sewed together, laid
out on the tables and then the wool applied guidance so that the colours would complement each other and leaf
prints could show through. The laying out process needed to be done in
the greenhouse with the doors closed to stop the fine wool from blowing
away. The results of all
the hard work were some truly wonderful jackets. Gloves and felted flowers were on the menu for Sunday luckily it was
cooler and it even rained.
